ImageThank you for your interest in learning about the many ways in which you can support our humanitarian work with asylum seekers. Despite living lawfully in the community, the vast majority of the asylum seekers who approach our service for support hold bridging visas which render them work, Centrelink and Medicare ineligible. As a result, most are utterly reliant upon charities and community supporters to meet their basic subsistence needs.

The Asylum Seekers Centre of NSW (ASC) receives no government funding. We rely upon philanthropic support and public donations to sustain our operations. All financial donations to ASC will be used to support our provision of services to asylum seekers.

There are also, however, a number of ways in which you can provide direct material assistance to our clients. If you are able to donate any of the items listed below, please deliver them (Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm) or send them to us at 38 Nobbs Street Surry Hills NSW 2010.

  • Food vouchers are an extremely useful way to support destitute asylum seekers, as they allow recipients to purchase essential grocery items at a range of outlets. You can arrange purchase and delivery of Essentials cards online. Please request that cards be delivered to us at the above address. We distribute vouchers to asylum seekers on a priority needs basis.

  • You can help stock our food bank by donating any of the non-perishable food items or toiletries listed here. All asylum seekers who come to the centre are welcome to access our free food bank.

  • Donations of travel ten cards (ideally red ones) for use on Sydney buses enable asylum seekers to travel to appointments at ASC and elsewhere.

  • Donations of domestic and international phone cards enable our clients to make emergency calls and to keep in touch with family and friends offshore.

Due to spatial constraints, we are unable to accept donations of clothes or other items at this time. As we refer many of our clients who are needing such items to the St Vincent de Paul Society shop on Crown Street, Surry Hills, you may wish to donate to that outlet.

If you are a doctor or work for a pharmaceutical company, you may wish to donate pharmaceutical samples or clinical supplies to our on-site health clinic . Please call (02) 9361 5606 on a Monday or Tuesday and ask to speak with the Health Care Program Coordinator to discuss arrangements. (We are unable to accept pharmaceuticals from the general public.)
