Join our Refugee Week film and music events

Join us to amplify and celebrate the voices of refugees and people seeking asylum this Refugee Week 2021.

EVENT POSTPONED: Film premiere: Scattered People

This event was scheduled for Thursday 17 June, but has been postponed due to the evolving Covid-19 situation in Sydney. Ticketholders will be contacted with information about their options, and a new date will be announced soon. Watch this space.

Join us for the world premiere of the film Scattered People, to be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, John and Lizzie Swatland & special guests.

About the film: When Australian musicians go into a Brisbane detention centre to share music, they meet two Iranian musicians, Mas and Saha, who sing on their next album.

Missy Higgins, John Butler, Archie Roach, Dan Sultan, Harry James Angus, Robbie James (GANGgajang), Michael Franti and others talk about the power of music, its ability to break through barriers, unite people and create shared
experiences.

What does the music we produce, sing and listen to tell us about ourselves, our country and life experience? Academics, psychologists and refugee specialists talk about the role artistic expression plays in building personal and national identity, and the healing power of creative expression and shared stories.

All profits will assist the Asylum Seekers Centre to provide welcome, support and services to people seeking asylum who live in our Sydney community.

The use of face masks is encouraged at this event.
