Everyone who lives in Greater Sydney (Australia) and has made an application for asylum can get support from the Asylum Seekers Centre.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for assistance including employment help, emergency food, financial assistance and crisis support.

When you successfully get a protection visa, you will be eligible for government income support and will no longer receive help from the Asylum Seekers Centre.

While they wait for asylum claims to be processed, people seeking asylum live in limbo on temporary visas – sometimes for many years. They are not eligible for government income support and can face barriers to entering the workforce, getting healthcare and being included in communities. Families seeking asylum are also required to pay international fees to schools and universities.

The Asylum Seekers Centre is a place of welcome and provides practical support to people seeking asylum as they adjust to life in Australia.

We rely on philanthropic grants, individual donations, some state government support, a dedicated team of professional staff and a network of more than 400 volunteers to undertake our work.
