The Board of the Asylum Seekers Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Prabha Gulati as the Centre’s Director, commencing on 15 June 2009. Prabha succeeds Tamara Domicelj who, after 4 years in the position, has left to join the Refugee Council of Australia as its National Policy Director.
Prabha is a registered psychologist with 15 years experience in transcultural counselling and psychotherapeutic interventions, including the last 10 years with survivors of torture and trauma at STARTTS (Service for the Treatment & Rehabilitation of Survivors of Torture & Trauma).

Seeking freedom from fear is at the heart of a refugee's flight from danger. This year the Refugee Council, and other community groups, hope 'to draw attention not just to the fear that compels refugees to run, but the relief they feel when they are welcomed into another country and given the opportunity to rebuild their lives'.
