For more than 30 years, with the help of people like you, the Asylum Seekers Centre has provided a place of welcome in Sydney for people navigating Australia’s complex processes for granting refugee protection.
The people we support face systemic barriers to their basic human rights – access to education, shelter, an adequate standard of living, physical and mental wellbeing and equality before the law. It’s simply inhumane.
Employment & training: job searching and matching, resume writing, interview skills, English lessons
Access to transport: opal card top ups to travel for work, healthcare, services and education
Access to healthcare: support from doctors, nurses and physios at ASC’s clinic, referrals for optometry, dental and crisis care
Access to education: enrolment in childcare, school and university, help with uniforms and digital devices
Advocacy for change: amplifying the voices and sharing the stories of people seeking asylum
Casework and critical support: for people experiencing homelessness, mental illness, complex visa matters & family disruption
At first it was hard because I had nothing in my pocket…Many times, if you give an opportunity to refugees, they can succeed in lots of things, and they can give back to the community.
