YOUR LEGACY

Make a gift in your will

For most of us, regardless of income, the gift we leave in our will is the most significant we’ll ever make.

At the Asylum Seekers Centre, we know such gifts make a world of difference for people seeking asylum in our community.

For over 30 years, a community of volunteers, staff, supporters and donors has provided a place of care and connection for people seeking asylum in NSW, and advocated for fair and humane policies for refugees and people seeking asylum across Australia.

In that time, we’ve welcomed and supported a generation of people seeking asylum from across the globe. This has only been possible through the generosity of people like you.

Making a gift in your will, while still taking care of your loved ones, is easy to do. Whether your gift is large or modest, it means the world to the people seeking asylum who need our support.

There are a number of ways you can remember the Asylum Seekers Centre in your Will.

  • With a residuary bequest you can leave the remainder of your estate to the Asylum Seekers Centre after you have made provision for your loved ones.
  • You may prefer to nominate the percentage of your estate you want reserved for the Asylum Seekers Centre.
  • Or, alternatively, if you can leave Asylum Seekers Centre a specific sum of money, which is known as a pecuniary bequest. You can also leave particular items such as shares, paintings, or property in your will.

We have also partnered with an online service called Willed, who make it really easy to write your Will online today.

When you have made your decision, it’s important that you let your family know and that you seek advice from your solicitor or the Public Trustees in your state to ensure your wishes are reflected in your Will.

Please let us know by phone on 02 9078 1900 or email so that we can thank you, keep you up to date and acknowledge your intention as you see fit.

FAQs

Our legal name is the Asylum Seekers Centre and our ABN is 47 164 509 475

Is it easy to add the Asylum Seekers Centre to my existing will?
Yes it is. If you already have a will, you can add a codicil to include your bequest.

Can I direct my gift to an existing program?
There are many people who’ve donated their time and money to specific areas of our work. However, the only certainty we have about the future is that there will always be more people seeking asylum who need our help, so we ask that you allow the ASC to decide how best to use your gift once it has been received, according to our community’s needs at that time.

Can I create a page in memory of a loved one, who cared deeply about the safety and security of people seeking asylum?
Yes, we have a step-by-step guide to make it easy to create an “in memorium” page on our website.
