The NSW State Homelessness strategy promises to make homelessness “rare, brief, and non-recurring” – but people seeking asylum are too often excluded from support.
People seeking asylum have been forced to flee their homes – escaping violence, war, and/or persecution – only to arrive in Australia and find themselves caught in a broken system and facing homelessness. This is the story of Ayan and many other members of our community.
We are calling on the Federal Government to support states and territories to open up access to emergency housing and other homelessness support programs.
