Statement from the Asylum Seekers Centre on the escalating assault on Rafah

May 08, 2024

The Asylum Seekers Centre is deeply concerned by the escalating assault on Rafah, which follows an already shocking loss of life.

The Israeli government has previously declared Rafah a “safe zone”, resulting in around 1.5 million Palestinians, most of them displaced, now sheltering in the area.

With nowhere left to run, there will be a wholly unacceptable impact on civilians, particularly children.

It is in our DNA to stand with all displaced peoples and victims of war and persecution.

The Asylum Seekers Centre is calling on the Australian government and the international community to use every lever of power possible to secure a permanent humanitarian ceasefire and protect innocent lives.
